Anthropic open-sources Claude Commerce Agents, a blueprint for AI shopping and merchant agents
On Sept. 2, Anthropic released Claude Commerce Agents, an open-source reference blueprint (github.com/anthropics/commerce-agents) for building a customer-facing shopping agent and a back-office merchant agent on Claude. The shopping agent handles multi-item catalog search, personalization, in-conversation cart building, and order/return support with guardrails against manipulative upselling; the merchant agent covers sales analytics, inventory alerts, dynamic pricing and promotion suggestions, and marketing drafts with human-in-the-loop approval before anything goes live. It ships with working examples across retail, travel, telecom, and entertainment, runs on the Messages API, Claude Agent SDK, or Managed Agents, and deploys via the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry, or Google Cloud Vertex AI. Partners named include Shopify, Priceline, Accenture, Mastercard, Visa, Intuit, Klaviyo, Wix, Zomato, Fetch, and Square; Anthropic says retailers running shopping agents on Claude have seen carts up to 35% larger and shoppers 60% more likely to complete a purchase.
